Ants create social structures, so when you look at a single worker or the entire colony forming a superorganism, you will see a number of very interesting processes. During the classes children discover the laws ruling the anthill. Together we reflect on the responsibilities that govern the world of ants. We will observe a big ant family living in the formicarium. What tasks are carried out inside the anthill, and what activities are carried out on the outside? To better understand how ants move and orientate in the dark anthill, we will play the role of some ants during an educational game. Children will see, that ants have so many secrets for us.
The Colourful World of Birds
Just like people with different looks, names and surnames, so do birds have their names, characteristic appearance and different habits. They dance to the rhythm of the music, recognize their own reflection in the mirror, distinguish human faces, “mourn” deceased brethren and create real works of art. During the classes, children learn about different species of birds and the features of their body structure enabling active flight and adaptation to gaining food. We learn about the life of a bird from its birth, through growing up, to undertaking an extraordinary autumn migration. Children will see what the everyday life of birds looks like. They will also learn to recognize the sounds made by the birds of our city and learn their habits.
The Life of Frogs in the Pond
With the help of simple equipment that facilitates observation (transparent trays and magnifying glasses), children observe the interesting world of the pond’s ecosystem and the animals living there. We learn about the amphibians, fish, birds and aquatic invertebrates living there, as well as their habits. We will find out in which environment these animals live and whether they are similar to their parents when they are young or not. We will listen to the sounds of a frog and try to imitate some of them ourselves. While playing around the model pond, children equipped with meshes will look for fish, newts, tadpoles and aquatic insects, discovering the fascinating world of this ecosystem!
How to Become Invisible?
Camouflage in the animal world. Some animals can mask themselves perfectly so they become invisible to the predator or potential victim. We will learn that sometimes it’s not that easy to distinguish between animal and its surroundings or even a plant. We will observe real masters of this art – stick insects. We will also find out why some organisms have to hide and how they do it. We will talk about the chameleon and its amazing abilities.a
Exploration of the Meadow
During the classes we will learn what a meadow is. What is so special about this place? We will learn the characteristic plant species that make up the meadow communities and we will smell their smells. Children will receive special containers (with magnifying glass) with small meadow animals figures will placed in. We will find their common features such as the number of legs or wings. We will also observe insects with a microscope. Finally we will create an artwork using stamps.
The Colours of Nature
The nature “paints” the land in many colours. These change every season from white winter through the light green of spring to golden yellow leaves in autumn. We will isolate the dyes from the plants and experimentally check if there is any colorant in a leaf. We will create our own set of paints from plants. It will be a colourful lesson!
The Properties of Water
Are there any children who don’t like to play with water? During the classes, fun and learning blend into one. Depending on the age of the children, we will perform various experiments with water in the main role. The aim of the classes will also be to make children aware of the problem of drinking water scarcity in the world and the need to save water as well as to reduce its pollution in everyday life.
What Color Spots do Ladybugs Have?
The aim of the classes is to familiarize children with the habits of a common and commonly liked ladybug. During the classes, children learn about the common features of ladybugs and other beetles. They learn about the life cycle of a ladybug, what are the stages of its development and why its body changes. After classes, children know that there are several dozen species of ladybugs in Poland, not all of them have dots, but they are all extremely useful!
The Land of Butterflies
Each of us has observed butterflies: in the forest, in the meadow or in the garden. They are gentle, vulnerable and live only a few days. Is it matter though? Butterflies hide many secrets. They smell, make squeaky sounds, pretend to be predators or check the taste of nectar…. with their legs. During the classes, children will learn about the fascinating world of butterflies. They will see a collection of these colourful insects and learn about their body structure. Using a microscope they will see a fragment of a butterfly wing. They will learn what a “metamorphosis” is, why it takes place and how it takes place. We will answer such questions as: what kind of migratory butterflies we observe in Poland, how to distinguish a day butterfly from a moth, what role does a butterfly play in nature?
The history of relation between human and the bees starts in prehistoric times. Those little creatures though researched for many centuries, still hide many secrets. Main goal of the classes is to show children special role of bees in nature and explain how much we owe them! We will find out what bees family looks like, we will know the types of hives and we will dress in a protective hat of the beekeeper learning about his work. We will dance on a honeycomb to learn the names of honey-giving plants. Finally, we will get to know the taste of various honeys and create a candle made of natural beeswax, which every child will take home.
